Parcel Insurance at Checkout — Installation and configuration
Offer optional shipping insurance at the payment step: installation, calculation modes and display options.
Overview
The Parcel Insurance at Checkout module displays an optional shipping-insurance offer at the payment step. The customer enables it in one click, and the corresponding amount is added to the order as a dedicated line. Because insurance is handled as a standard order line, it automatically appears in totals, on the invoice, in the back-office order detail and in emails.
The price can be a fixed amount or a percentage of the cart, with optional bounds. The module is compatible with PrestaShop 8 and 9, in single-store and multistore, and is multilingual.
Installation
- In the back office, open Modules > Module Manager.
- Click Upload a module and drop the module ZIP archive.
- Once installation is complete, click Configure.
On installation, the module creates a hidden technical product named “Parcel insurance” that backs the insurance line. This product is not visible in the catalog and must not be deleted manually.
Configuration
Enable insurance
The Enable insurance switch controls the global display of the offer at checkout. Turn it off to temporarily hide insurance without uninstalling the module.
Calculation mode
Two modes are available:
- Fixed amount: a single fee, entered tax excluded, is offered regardless of the cart.
- Percentage of the cart: the fee is a percentage of the product total, tax excluded and excluding insurance. It is recalculated automatically if the cart changes.
Floor and cap
In percentage mode in particular, you can frame the final fee with a floor (minimum amount charged) and a cap (maximum amount). Leave these fields at 0 to apply no bound.
Minimum cart
Set a minimum cart value (tax excluded) below which insurance is not offered. A value of 0 offers insurance for every cart.
Tax rule
Select the tax rule applied to the insurance line. The amounts entered in the configuration are tax-excluded; tax is added according to the chosen rule. Leave “No tax” if insurance is not taxed.
Pre-checked
Enable the Pre-checked option to add insurance automatically as soon as the customer enters the checkout. The customer remains free to remove it; their choice is remembered for the rest of the funnel.
Title and description
The displayed title and the description are customisable and translatable per language. They form the sales copy presented to the customer on the insurance card.
Customer side
At the payment step, a card presents the insurance offer with its price. The customer ticks or unticks the box: the amount is added to or removed from the cart without leaving the funnel. Totals and payment options are updated accordingly.
Order, invoice and emails
Because insurance is a native order line, it automatically appears in the order summary, on the invoice, in the back-office order detail and in confirmation emails. It stays compatible with tax handling and refunds.
Uninstallation
Uninstalling the module removes the “Parcel insurance” technical product, its specific prices and all configuration. Orders already placed keep the insurance line they contained.

How is the insurance amount added to the order?

Can I charge a percentage of the cart?
Yes. In percentage mode, the fee is computed on the product total tax excluded (excluding insurance), framed by the optional floor and cap.
