Frequently asked questions
Why leave Shopify?
Three reasons dominate: (1) cumulative costs — between the Shopify subscription, transaction fees (1-2% on top of Stripe / PayPal), and the stack of monthly apps (often €200-500/month), a shop at €1M revenue easily pays €30-60k/year to Shopify; (2) control — Liquid is limited, technical SEO is locked (frozen sitemap, heavy redirects, limited structured data), restricted APIs; (3) ownership — on WooCommerce, your shop is yours, hostable wherever you want, modifiable however you want. No lock-in, no price hikes every year.
How long does the migration take?
For a standard shop (1-5k SKUs, Shopify Basic or Shopify subscription, few custom apps): 4 to 8 weeks. For a Shopify Plus shop with complex apps, active subscriptions, and ERP integrations: 3 to 6 months. The majority of SMB migrations happen in 6-10 weeks.
Do we keep products, customers, orders?
Yes, fully — products with variants, photos, descriptions, SEO metadata, customers (with addresses), past orders (read-only on the WC side), tags, collections (→ WC categories). We use the Shopify Admin API to export structurally, then import into WooCommerce with mapping. No data is entered manually.
How do you guarantee SEO continuity?
Yes, critical. Complete SEO plan: mapping each Shopify URL (/products/, /collections/, /pages/) to its WooCommerce equivalent, systematic 301s, sitemap regen, hreflang if multilingual, product / Organization JSON-LD. We install Yoast or Rank Math on WP with metadescription and title tag migration. Typical result: 0 to -10% positions at D+30, return or surpass at D+90.
I have Shopify Subscriptions — can you handle that?
Yes, it's one of the most frequent migrations in 2026 since Shopify Subscriptions' aggressive pricing. We migrate active subscriptions to official WooCommerce Subscriptions or a direct Stripe system (depending on your need for flexibility). Renewals in progress keep running. Customers see nothing visible — their next billing cycle triggers normally.
How much does the migration cost?
For a standard Shopify → WooCommerce project with data migration, hosting, SEO redirects, and design rework: from €4,500. For Shopify Plus with active subscriptions, integrated ERP, and complex apps: €12,000 to €35,000. Free preliminary audit determines actual complexity.
Do my Shopify apps have WooCommerce equivalents?
We don't carry over Shopify apps directly — each one needs its WordPress / WooCommerce equivalent. For the most common apps (reviews, popups, abandonment cart, loyalty, search), there are equivalent WP plugins that are much better (Klaviyo, OptinMonster, Yotpo, etc.). For custom dev apps, we rewrite them as custom WP plugins — quoted in the audit.
Do we have to stop production during the migration?
Very little, in a short window. Preparation happens on a parallel WooCommerce staging environment (Shopify stays live). On switchover day: final data dump from Shopify, import into WC, DNS switch. Typical downtime: 1-3 hours, in a night or weekend window. The Shopify shop is kept read-only for 30 days as a safety net.
