Custom PrestaShop Module Development
The exact module your store is missing, delivered in 2 to 4 weeks.
We write the scope with you, quote a fixed price, build for PrestaShop 8 and 9 without core overrides, test on your staging store and hand over the source code. More than 250 modules published in our own catalogue.
Officially certified by PrestaShop.
DataFireFly is a PrestaShop Certified Agency for 2026 and a level 3 PrestaShop Expert, and our team holds the PrestaShop Expert certification (Core Skills). All three are awarded by PrestaShop itself.
About usPrestaShop Addons lists thousands of modules, yet there is almost always one business rule none of them handles: a price calculated from your own formula, a feed into your ERP, a back-office screen your team has been asking for for months. We build that module, for your store, with a written scope and a fixed price agreed before any code is written.
DataFirefly also publishes its own catalogue: more than 250 PrestaShop modules, documented and maintained for PrestaShop 8 and 9. The habits that catalogue forces on us (multi-version compatibility, multistore, translations, upgrade scripts) apply to every custom module we deliver.
When a custom module is the right answer
Custom development rarely makes sense for a generic feature. It becomes the right call in specific situations:
- Your business rule does not exist in any module: pricing from dimensions, prescription checks, stock shared with a physical shop, orders that need a manager’s approval.
- You are stacking three modules to get one feature, with hook conflicts, overrides fighting each other and pages getting slower.
- An external system has to talk to PrestaShop: ERP, CRM, 3PL, point of sale, e-invoicing platform, supplier API.
- An existing module blocks your upgrade to PrestaShop 9 because its vendor stopped maintaining it.
If a module on the market already covers 80% of the need, we will tell you during scoping. Adapting an existing module is often cheaper than starting from scratch, and we quote that option too.
What we build on PrestaShop
Back-office and business tools
Custom admin screens, bulk editing, dashboards, approval workflows, permissions per employee profile. On PrestaShop 8.1 and 9 we extend the new product page through its form hooks rather than improvised tabs, so no data is lost when a merchant switches between product page versions.
Checkout, payment and shipping
Extra checkout fields, delivery slots, shipping rules by postcode or volumetric weight, deposits, specific payment methods, restrictions by customer group. Anything touching the cart is tested as guest and as logged-in customer, with several currencies and tax rates.
Connectors and synchronisation
Data exchange with Odoo, Sage, Cegid, a CRM, a 3PL or a dropshipping supplier: orders, stock, prices, customers, invoices. We rely on queues and scheduled tasks so the store never slows down when the remote system responds badly, and every exchange is logged so a sync can be replayed.
B2B selling
Company accounts with several buyers, customer-specific prices, minimum order quantities, quote requests, consolidated invoicing, 30-day payment terms. See also our page on B2B on PrestaShop.
Front office and product page
Step-by-step configurators, quantity calculators, personalisation with preview, compatibility selectors, content blocks. Rendering goes through display hooks and templates your theme can override, compatible with Classic and Hummingbird.
How we write a PrestaShop module
A custom module has to survive updates to PrestaShop, PHP and your other modules. Our development rules are designed for that:
- Hooks and services instead of overrides. A core class override breaks at the first update or clashes with another module. We only add one when no other route exists, and we document it.
- Admin controllers compatible with PrestaShop 8 and 9, with native security tokens, per-profile permissions and no calls to internal files PrestaShop 9 removed.
- Every table created at install and in an upgrade script, so a fresh install and an upgraded store end up with the same database.
- Multistore and multilingual from version one: per-shop configuration, translatable fields, translations shipped for your store’s languages.
- Parameterised SQL and escaped output, Smarty templates included.
- No shared Composer dependencies that could clash with the version bundled by another module.
What you receive at delivery
- The module as a ZIP installable from the Module Manager, tested on your PrestaShop version and your staging copy.
- The complete source code with no restrictive licence: you can hand it to another developer tomorrow.
- Installation and user documentation, written for the person who will use it every day.
- 12 months of compatibility updates and bug fixes at no extra cost.
What drives the price of a PrestaShop module
Our quotes start at €1,500 and stay fixed once the scope is approved. The amount mainly depends on four factors:
| Factor | Effect on the quote |
|---|---|
| Interface | A back-office setting costs little; a management screen with lists, filters and bulk actions takes several days. |
| External integration | A documented, stable API connects quickly; an ERP without a modern API means file exchanges and more testing. |
| Where it hooks into PrestaShop | Adding a block to the product page is simple; changing cart or tax calculation touches the core and needs longer testing. |
| Versions and environment | Targeting PrestaShop 9 only is faster than covering 1.7, 8 and 9; multistore adds test cases. |
Modules we have already built
Some of our developments became catalogue modules. They show the level of complexity we handle:
- Step-by-step product configurator with visual options, live preview and price impact.
- Vehicle fitment finder for auto parts: year, make, model selector and customer garage.
- Prescription glasses module: prescription entry, lens choice and correction checks.
- Custom textile printing: screen printing, embroidery and transfers with pricing per print area.
- Bank transfer reconciliation against orders awaiting payment.
- Order export to a 3PL in CSV, EDI or API, with tracking numbers imported back.
- B2B consolidated invoicing: one monthly invoice per customer across several orders.
If one of these is close to your need, we can adapt it instead of rewriting everything.
Around the module
A custom module is often part of a wider project. We also handle PrestaShop 8 to 9 migration, technical store audits, Sage and Cegid connectors and PrestaShop maintenance.
How we can help
Module built from scratch
From specification to production, with a written scope and a fixed price.
Takeover of an existing module
Audit, fixes and upgrade of a module written by a third party or abandoned by its vendor.
ERP, CRM or 3PL connector
Odoo, Sage, Cegid, 3PL, suppliers: orders, stock, prices and invoices kept in sync.
Checkout and payment
Checkout fields, delivery slots, shipping rules, deposits, specific payment methods.
B2B features
Multi-buyer accounts, customer prices, minimums, quotes, consolidated invoicing.
Porting to PrestaShop 9
Making a 1.7 or 8 module compatible: controllers, product page v2, PHP 8.1+.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a custom PrestaShop module cost?
Our quotes start at €1,500. The price depends on the interface to build, external integrations, the part of PrestaShop involved (a display block or the cart calculation) and the versions to cover. You receive a fixed quote within 24 hours of scoping, and it does not change once the scope is approved.
How long does it take to develop a PrestaShop module?
Two to four weeks for most modules, from quote approval to delivery on your staging store. An ERP connector or a module that changes the cart can take six to eight weeks; the timeline is written in the quote.
Do I own the source code?
Yes. You receive the installable module and the full source code, with no licence key or usage restriction. You are free to have it developed further by another provider.
Will the module be compatible with PrestaShop 9?
Yes. We develop for PrestaShop 8 and 9 by default, on PHP 8.1 and above. If your store still runs 1.7, we can include it in the scope or help you migrate.
Can you take over a module written by someone else?
Yes. We start with a code audit covering security, overrides and compatibility with your version. You then know whether fixing or rewriting it makes more sense, with a quote for each option.
Do you use overrides?
As little as possible. Hooks and services cover almost every need and survive updates. When an override is unavoidable, it is limited to one method and documented in the delivery.
What happens after the 12 months of updates?
The module keeps working. You can take out a maintenance contract, order a one-off change at a fixed price, or hand the code to your own team.
Can you publish the module on PrestaShop Addons?
Yes, if the module is meant to be sold. We prepare the submission (technical validation, screenshots, multilingual descriptions) and the module is published under your name.
