AJAX faceted filter on a PrestaShop category page with price slider and result count

v1.4.3 · updated 2026-09-22

What it does

The short version.

AJAX with no override

The module implements PrestaShop's Search Provider and Facets Renderer interfaces: the core injects our facets and drives the theme AJAX. No overridden files, no duplicated listing logic.

Price slider + histogram

A dual price slider with a product distribution histogram, powered by a dedicated price index maintained through hooks, batch rebuild and a cron endpoint.

SEO facets under control

Every facet is indexable or not. Filtered pages get index/follow or noindex/follow per your rules, with a combination cap and a normalized canonical tag.

Accurate dynamic counters

Disjunctive counting: each facet is counted with every constraint except its own. Multi-select behaves like on major marketplaces.

The long version

Everything you'd want to know before you install.

A detailed look at how AJAX Faceted Filters for PrestaShop works, why we built it the way we did, and the thinking behind the features above.

§ 01

Faceted filtering built for speed

AJAX Faceted Filters turns your listing pages into instant navigation. By relying on PrestaShop's native Search Provider, the module lets the core and theme handle AJAX, product-list updates and browser history. The result: no override, no duplicated listing logic, and maximum theme compatibility. The front end stays lightweight and runs on vanilla JavaScript, with no jQuery.

§ 02

A price slider that builds trust

The price slider shows a product distribution histogram computed from a dedicated price index. That index is maintained in real time by product hooks, and can be rebuilt in batches from the back office or via a token-protected cron endpoint. Each facet's counters use disjunctive counting: selecting one value never wrongly hides the other options of the same facet.

§ 03

Facet SEO, finally under control

Each facet can be declared indexable or not. Filtered pages then receive index/follow or noindex/follow per your rules, with a configurable cap on the number of indexable values to protect your crawl budget. Links to non-indexable facets switch to rel nofollow, and a normalized canonical tag is generated, de-duplicating the theme's own. A dashboard shows your most-used facets and the share of filtered pages kept out of the index.

Everything included

The long list.

AJAX with no override — The module implements PrestaShop's Search Provider and Facets Renderer interfaces: the core injects our facets and drives the theme AJAX. No overridden files, no duplicated listing logic.

Price slider + histogram — A dual price slider with a product distribution histogram, powered by a dedicated price index maintained through hooks, batch rebuild and a cron endpoint.

SEO facets under control — Every facet is indexable or not. Filtered pages get index/follow or noindex/follow per your rules, with a combination cap and a normalized canonical tag.

Accurate dynamic counters — Disjunctive counting: each facet is counted with every constraint except its own. Multi-select behaves like on major marketplaces.

Native integration through Search Provider + Facets Renderer, with zero overrides

Creative Elements (WebshopWorks) compatible in two modes: the page builder's widgets with all their design controls, or the module's blocks placed with its Module widget while keeping ?dff= URLs

Setting that hands the filter block to the page builder on the listings it owns, and to the module everywhere else

Theme AJAX mode (native events), the module refreshing its own facets and active filters whatever the theme, with a self-managed fallback mode

Dual price slider with a 12-bucket distribution histogram

Dedicated price index: product hooks, batch rebuild in the back office, token-secured cron endpoint

SEO landing pages: one filter combination becomes a real page with per-language meta title, description, H1 and editorial intro

XML sitemap of the landing pages with hreflang alternates, ready for Search Console

Color and texture swatches as a horizontal grid or a vertical list, checkboxes or links per facet

Multi-select with disjunctive counters (OR within a facet, AND across facets)

Built-in On-sale, Sub-categories, Availability and Condition facets, on top of attributes, features, brand and price

Per-facet value sorting: catalog position, alphabetical or product count, plus single-value facet hiding

Per-category scoping: show a facet only on some categories, or everywhere except on them

Works on category, brand, supplier, new products, best sellers, specials and search pages

Readable filter URLs, indexable or not per facet, with rel nofollow on non-indexable facet links

Facet links invisible to robots except on indexable facets: crawlers no longer discover filter combinations, with no change for your customers

410 response to old ?q= URLs from the native faceted search, before any catalog query

Normalized canonical tag with theme canonical deduplication

Polished, customizable design: accent colour of your choice, mobile panel with a configurable width breakpoint, scroll position preservation

Active filters shown with the facet name or the value only

Facet value maps loaded from a single selection-independent cache entry, to hold up under crawler traffic

Short-lived counter cache, automatically invalidated on every catalog change and shielded from deep combinations

Statistics dashboard: most-used facets and share of crawl budget kept out of the index, robot traffic excluded

Front office in 8 languages (EN, FR, ES, DE, IT, PL, PT, NL), vanilla JavaScript without jQuery

Changelog · 9 releases

What's shipped.

Every release goes through compatibility testing against the last three platform minors. No feature hidden in a fix, no fix hidden in a feature.

Fix v1.4.3 2026-09-22

Fix: facets refresh again after an AJAX filter. The module script runs in the page head, before PrestaShop makes its events available there, so the subscription to listing updates never happened. It is now attached as soon as those events exist
Symptoms fixed: boxes that did not tick after a click, and filters that replaced each other instead of adding up

Fix v1.4.2 2026-09-22

The module refreshes its own facet block and active filters after every AJAX update, whatever the theme: Hummingbird targets a different id than the module's and never replaced them
New active filter display option: the value only ("White wine") instead of the facet and value ("Wine type: White wine")

Fix v1.4.1 2026-09-22

Mobile filter panel independent from the theme's utility classes, with a configurable width breakpoint and closing on outside click or the Escape key. Fixes filters shown below the product list on Hummingbird
"Theme" AJAX mode: the automatic switch to self-managed mode after 900 ms is gone; it left page-builder widgets (counter, pagination, sort) on the previous state

Major v1.4.0 2026-09-22

Partial Creative Elements mode: URLs keep the ?dff= parameter, and the module's filters, active filters and mobile button are placed in the layout with the page builder's Module widget
Crawl control: an option keeps real links on indexable facets only; the other filter combinations can no longer be discovered by robots
Old ?q= URLs from the native faceted search can receive a 410 response before any catalog query

Fix v1.3.1 2026-09-20

Fix: facet ordering was never saved. PrestaShop posts the drag & drop payload under the identifier stripped of its id_ prefix (facet), not under the table name (dff_facet); the read failed silently while the notification still reported success
The new order is now rebuilt from the payload rather than moved one step, which makes the write idempotent, and the call returns a real status instead of staying silent
New category restriction rule: show the facet only on the ticked categories, or everywhere except on them. Unticking a category never hid a facet, and the whitelist alone could not exclude a subcategory whose parent was allowed
Form labels rewritten so the category rule is no longer ambiguous

Major v1.3.0 2026-09-15

Creative Elements compatibility: the page builder's Filters, Active Filters and Clear widgets, along with its mobile Filters button, work with the module and keep every one of their design controls
In Creative Elements mode the filter selection travels in the q parameter the page builder expects; legacy dff URLs are 301-redirected and the range syntax of its price slider is accepted
New setting deciding who renders the filter block: the page builder on the listings it owns, or the module everywhere else
Performance: facet value maps are loaded from a single selection-independent cache entry instead of one query and several disk lookups per facet on every page
Performance: the counter cache no longer stores the deep combinations crawlers generate, which are never read back and only inflated the table
Performance: the catalog-visibility subquery is dropped from the counting queries when no category is restricted for the visitor's groups
Performance: the landing-page lookup is answered without an SQL query, and usage statistics are no longer written for robots

Major v1.2.0 2026-09-04

SEO landing pages: turn one filter combination into a real landing page with per-language meta title, description, H1 and editorial intro, plus a dedicated XML sitemap with hreflang
New Sub-categories facet with automatic subtree inclusion
Per-facet value sorting (position, alphabetical, product count), color swatches as a grid or a vertical list, single-value facet hiding
Complete front-end redesign: switch rows for yes/no facets, selection badge and per-facet clear, full-screen mobile modal, configurable accent colour
Resilient AJAX: automatic self-managed fallback when the theme does not respond, scroll position preservation, script immune to broken JS bundles
Front-office translations in 8 languages and many fixes: PrestaShop 9 compatibility, search page, customer-group visibility, multistore stock, per-currency and per-group cache

Major v1.1.0 2026-07-16

Search results page support
Per-category facet scoping
New On-sale facet
Self-invalidating counter cache
Usage and crawl-budget statistics dashboard

Major v1.0.0 2026-07-11

Native AJAX filtering with zero overrides
Price slider with histogram and dedicated index
Multi-select with disjunctive counters
Full SEO control of filter URLs

Questions

Anything still unclear?

Does it replace the official faceted search?

Yes. AJAX Faceted Filters takes priority over the native faceted-search module and replaces it. We recommend disabling the latter; a back-office warning reminds you if it is still active.

Is the module compatible with Creative Elements?

Yes, in two modes of your choice. In full mode, the Creative Elements Filters, Active Filters and mobile Filters widgets display the module's filters with all their design controls; since Creative Elements imposes its own parameter, filter URLs then use ?q=. In partial mode, URLs keep ?dff=: you place the module's filters, active filters and mobile button in your layout with the Creative Elements Module widget, and their look is set through the module and your CSS.

Do I need to edit my theme?

No. The module plugs into PrestaShop's native interfaces and refreshes its own blocks after every filter, Hummingbird included. For themes whose listing script does not load, a self-managed mode handles the page update.

Will filtered pages pollute my SEO?

No, and that's a key strength. You decide which facets are indexable, cap the number of indexable combinations, and everything else is served as noindex/follow with a clean canonical. Above all, the module can keep real links on indexable facets only: the other combinations stay clickable for your customers but are no longer discovered by robots, which therefore stop loading them. Old ?q= URLs left by the native faceted search can receive a 410 response before any catalog query.

Does filtering work on the search page?

Yes. On top of category, brand, supplier, new-products, best-sellers and specials pages, the facets apply to search results while respecting PrestaShop's native ranking.

Is it suitable for large catalogs and crawler traffic?

Yes. A dedicated price index speeds up the slider, and everything that does not depend on the selection is pooled into a cache that survives any number of distinct combinations: facet value maps, catalog visibility and the landing-page index. The counter cache skips deep combinations, which are never read back, and statistics are no longer written for robots.

Is the source code included?

Yes, the module ships unencrypted. You get 12 months of compatibility updates and support within 24 h.
