Why measure your products' carbon footprint
Carbon footprint is no longer a niche topic. Your customers watch it, the European CSRD regulation requires it, and the voluntary carbon market is becoming a concrete differentiation tool. Carbon Footprint + Offset Checkout lets you measure the CO₂ impact of each of your products simply and offer customers a way to offset it at purchase time, without breaking your conversion funnel.
Footprint calculation that covers every case
The plugin combines four calculation sources in priority order: a manual value set directly on the product page, the Climatiq API if you have a key, an ADEME emission factor mapped to the product category, and a general fallback. The transport component is optional and accounts for product weight and a configurable average distance. Pre-loaded ADEME factors cover the main sectors: textile, electronics, food, cosmetics, furniture, paper, sport, jewelry and road transport.
Transparent offset option
At checkout, your customers see the estimated footprint of their cart and the matching offset cost. A single checkbox: they can add the offset to their order, or skip it. Price per ton is configurable (€15 to €30 per ton are typical on the Gold Standard and Verra voluntary market), as is the displayed partner. The plugin collects offsets as a dynamic WooCommerce fee: you stay in control of when and where credits are actually purchased with your offset partner.
Reporting and compliance
The admin dashboard aggregates measured footprint, offset footprint, number of orders involved and total amount to redeem with your partner. A detailed log lists every compensated order with its date, amount and tonnage. That's exactly the data you need to feed your non-financial report or answer an ESG audit request.
Built to integrate without friction
The plugin explicitly declares HPOS and WooCommerce Checkout Blocks compatibility. It works with Polylang Pro and WPML for multilingual stores. The product badge offers three styles and five configurable positions to adapt to your theme without template modification. A PHP filter dfcarbon_product_footprint lets you extend or override calculations from your own code.
