PrestaShop category page showing subcategories as image tiles

What it does

The short version.

01

Three layouts, one click

Regular grid, dynamic mosaic or scrolling carousel: pick the presentation that showcases your aisles best, without touching your theme.

02

Automatic image tiles

Each subcategory shows its cover image. When none is set, a gradient tile with the initial takes over: never a visual gap in the grid.

03

Product counters

A badge shows the number of products per subcategory, with optional recursive counting across the whole tree and automatic hiding of empty categories.

04

Built for performance

Counting in a single cached grouped query, lazy-loaded images, native CSS and JavaScript with no external library.

The long version

Everything you'd want to know before you install.

A detailed look at how Visual Category Page: Subcategories as Image Tiles (Category Wall) works, why we built it the way we did, and the thinking behind the features above.

§ 01

The native subcategory list has aged

On most PrestaShop themes, the category page still shows its subcategories as a bullet list or cramped little thumbnails: unengaging, with no visual hierarchy, and far from today's merchandising standards. Category Wall replaces that block with a clean, modern wall of image tiles that genuinely invites visitors to explore your aisles.

§ 02

Three layouts for three uses

The grid delivers a regular, readable result, ideal for a structured catalog. The mosaic highlights one subcategory with an enlarged tile, perfect for steering the eye toward a flagship aisle. The carousel packs many subcategories into a smooth horizontal scroll, touch-friendly on mobile and equipped with arrows on desktop. Everything is set from the configuration, without a single line of code.

§ 03

Counters that reassure the buyer

Each tile can show the subcategory's product count. Recursive counting adds up the products across the whole child tree, and you can automatically hide empty subcategories to present only genuinely stocked aisles. The calculation runs in a single cached grouped query, with no impact on load time.

§ 04

Robust, lightweight and theme-friendly

Category Wall hooks cleanly into the category page and imposes no override. Images are lazy-loaded, rendering relies on native CSS and JavaScript with no jQuery, and everything respects prefers-reduced-motion. The module is compatible with PrestaShop 8 and 9, multistore, and shipped in five languages.
