v1.0.1 · updated 2026-07-12
What it does

The short version.

01

Cross-device history

Views are stored in the database, per guest and per customer. At login, guest history is merged into the account: customers find their products again from one device to the next.

02

Price-drop badges

The module remembers the price each visitor saw. If the price has dropped since, a red "-X%" badge appears on the miniature. This is the conversion lever that sets this module apart from all the others.

03

Full-page-cache safe

The block is injected via AJAX: it stays personalised even behind Varnish, Cloudflare, LiteSpeed Cache or any CDN. Tracking uses a non-blocking beacon.

04

Analytics dashboard

A dedicated back-office tab: views, distinct products, unique visitors, most viewed products and above all the view-to-purchase conversion rate over 7, 30, 90 or 365 days.

The long version

Everything you'd want to know before you install.

A detailed look at how Recently Viewed Products Module PrestaShop 8/9 works, why we built it the way we did, and the thinking behind the features above.

§ 01

The native block is no longer enough

PrestaShop's stock module stores history in a cookie, forgets it from one device to another, vanishes behind a page cache and delivers no usable insight. DF Recently Viewed rebuilds the whole thing: database-backed history, cross-device tracking, cache-safe rendering and built-in analytics.

§ 02

A history that follows the customer, not the browser

Every view is recorded server-side, attached to the guest and then, at login, merged into the customer account. A visitor who spotted a product on their phone during their commute finds it again on their computer that evening. That is the difference between a gadget and a real journey-recovery tool.

§ 03

The price-drop badge, your best argument

The module remembers the price shown when the visitor viewed the product. If that price has dropped since, the miniature displays a red "-X%" badge. The customer instantly understands that now is the moment: this is the feature that turns a decorative block into a measurable conversion lever.

§ 04

Personalised, even behind a cache

On a shop running Varnish, Cloudflare or LiteSpeed Cache, a personalised block rendered server-side is either empty or wrong. Here, the block is injected via AJAX after the page renders and tracking fires as a non-blocking beacon. The result: always-accurate content, without sacrificing a single millisecond of performance.

§ 05

Exclusions that avoid the obvious blunders

Nothing looks worse than a block recommending the product already on screen, an out-of-stock item or a product already in the cart. Three switches rule out each of these cases, with careful backorder handling and a server-side cart recalculation, never taken from the cached page.

§ 06

Numbers at last, not impressions

A dedicated back-office tab gives you view volume, distinct products viewed, unique visitors, a ranking of the most-viewed products, and the view-to-purchase conversion rate computed on logged-in customers who bought a product after viewing it. You finally know what your block actually earns.

§ 07

Compliant and tidy

psgdpr-compatible export and deletion hooks, a self-service link letting visitors erase their own history, configurable retention with automatic purge and a token-protected CRON URL for high-traffic shops. Your data stays useful, never endlessly accumulated.
