A video banner that sells, without sacrificing GDPR
Background video is one of the most powerful visual levers for an e-commerce homepage: it showcases your products, sets a brand atmosphere and increases time on page. The problem with the usual solutions: a YouTube or Vimeo embed drops third-party cookies, slows the page down with more than a megabyte of JavaScript and forces you to gate the display behind consent. Video Background takes the opposite approach: the video is hosted on your own server and played by the native HTML5 video tag. The result: zero cookies, zero external requests, nothing to declare in your consent banner.
§ 02
Built for performance: lazy loading and mobile fallback
A poorly integrated video can wreck your Core Web Vitals. The module only downloads the file when the section approaches the viewport, pauses playback when it leaves the screen and never sends the video to mobile visitors: below the breakpoint you define, an optimized fallback image takes over, with its own alt text. Visitors who enabled reduced motion keep the poster image, with no wasted download.
§ 03
Tailor-made sections for the homepage and every category
Create one hero section for the homepage, another for your flagship category, a third for your sales: each section has its own MP4 video and optional WebM variant, poster, mobile image, height in vh or pixels, colored overlay with adjustable opacity, and content block — title, subtitle and call-to-action button — translatable into every shop language. Display order is managed by drag and drop.
§ 04
Five-minute setup, no technical configuration
Install the zip, create your first section, upload your video: it is live. The module relies on standard PrestaShop hooks, does not modify any theme file and works with any Classic-based theme. Uploads are verified server-side (MIME type, extension, configurable maximum size) and files are automatically cleaned up when a section is replaced or deleted.
