A detailed look at how Assign Images to Combinations by Color for PrestaShop 8 & 9 works, why we built it the way we did, and the thinking behind the features above.
The combination images problem after an import
PrestaShop links images to combinations one by one, and a combination without an image shows every photo of the product. After a migration from WooCommerce or a CSV import, the result is rarely right: a single photo per combination, no model shot, or photos of other colors showing up. Fixing a product with 30 combinations by hand takes a quarter of an hour, and a catalog of 2,000 products becomes unmanageable.
One rule per photo, applied to every size
The module works per photo and per color, not per combination. For each photo you say whether it belongs to one color, to all, to some or to none. The module derives the image list of each combination and applies it to every size of the color. Add a size later: it automatically receives the photos of its color.
Start from what already exists
If your import already linked each color photo to its combinations, the module keeps those links and turns orphan photos, such as the model shot or the cover, into shared photos. For products organized differently, it reads the color in the ALT text or follows the order of the photos placed before the cover. Every proposal is displayed before it is saved.
See the result before saving
The preview by color updates as you edit: you see the photos of each color and the one that will be the main image. If a shared photo comes before the color photo, the preview warns you. The full ALT text and click to zoom help you recognize close colors.
A whole catalog, with a safety net
The bulk assignment processes a category or the whole catalog in batches. Start with the dry run: each product shows the colors assigned and the shared photos added, and products where a color has no photo of its own are set aside for a manual check. The real run creates a backup that puts back the images, the photo order and the configuration in one click.
