PrestaShop Multistore

Geolocation Language & Country Suggestion for PrestaShop 8 & 9 (No Redirect)

The right country, the right language, without ever forcing a redirect.

A German visitor lands on your French store, a US customer ends up on the European site. Automatic IP redirects fix this by breaking indexing: Google gets bounced from one version to another and visitors lose the page they wanted. This module does the opposite. It detects the country and the browser language, then shows a discreet banner suggesting the same page in the right store or language. The visitor chooses, the choice is remembered, and crawlers never see the banner.

Geolocation Language & Country Suggestion for PrestaShop 8 & 9 (No Redirect)
v1.2.0 · updated 2026-10-07
What it does

The short version.

01

Zero redirect, zero SEO risk

The module never redirects. The banner is rendered in the browser after page load, crawlers (Googlebot, Bingbot, Lighthouse) are filtered out and the banner carries data-nosnippet. Your hreflang tags and indexed pages stay untouched.

02

The same page in the other store

The suggested link points to the equivalent page: the same product with its translated slug, the same category, the same CMS page, on another domain when needed. If the product does not exist in the target store, the visitor lands on its home page.

03

Geolocation included

The country is read from your CDN header (Cloudflare, CloudFront) or from a free IP-to-country database installed in one click from the back office. The database is read locally: no visitor IP address ever leaves your server.

04

The visitor's choice is respected

A visitor who declines is not asked again for the period you choose. One who switches language or store on their own, with your switcher or the banner, is never contradicted. A multilingual visitor already reading one of their browser languages is left alone.

The long version

Everything you'd want to know before you install.

A detailed look at how Geolocation Language & Country Suggestion for PrestaShop 8 & 9 (No Redirect) works, why we built it the way we did, and the thinking behind the features above.

§ 01

Why automatic IP redirects are a bad idea

Redirecting visitors by IP looks convenient, but Googlebot mostly crawls from the United States: it gets sent to a single version and never sees the others. Hreflang annotations become inconsistent, pages drop out of the index, and visitors abroad who really wanted your French version can no longer reach it. Google recommends suggesting rather than forcing, which is exactly what this module does.

§ 02

A precise suggestion, at the right moment

Each destination is a store and language pair, with the countries it serves and the browser languages it accepts. The module scores every destination and shows the banner only when one fits better than the current page. A store reserved for the United States is never suggested to an Irish visitor, and a Dutch-speaking Belgian on your French site is offered the Dutch version of the same page.

§ 03

Country detection without a MaxMind account or external service

If your store sits behind Cloudflare or CloudFront, the country comes from the CDN header. Otherwise, one click in the back office installs a free public-domain IP-to-country database covering IPv4 and IPv6. It is stored on your server and read locally with the library already shipped with PrestaShop: no visitor IP address is sent to a third party.

§ 04

A polished banner that gets in the way of neither conversion nor your cookie banner

The banner appears after the page has loaded, in a fixed position, with no layout shift. It waits for your cookie banner to close so two banners never stack. Its texts are written in the suggested language: a German visitor reads it in German on your French store. If they ignore it and keep browsing, the following pages only show a small pill.

§ 05

Measure what the banner brings

The dashboard counts views, clicks and refusals per destination and per country, with a CSV export. Counters are aggregated per day, without IP or customer identifier. Events are also pushed to the dataLayer for Google Tag Manager and GA4, and a simulator shows in one click what a visitor from a given country would see.
