PrestaShop Buying Guide Module 8 & 9: “Which Product to Choose” Pages Built from Your Catalog

"Which product to choose" pages that rewrite themselves when your catalog changes.

Searches like "which X to choose for Y" bring visitors who are ready to buy, but a hand-written buying guide turns wrong as soon as a price drops or a product goes out of stock. This module builds the page from your product features: you choose the categories compared and the criteria that matter, with their weight, and it calculates a score out of 100 for each product. The ranking, the picks, the comparison table, the statistics and the FAQ are generated, then recalculated when a product, a price or a stock level changes.

At a glance
  • One page per buying intent, titled as the customer's question
  • Score out of 100 calculated from features, price, sales and newness

  • Recalculated when a product, price or stock changes, with an honest update date
  • Ranking adjustable by the visitor and revenue tracked for each guide

PrestaShop Buying Guide Module 8 & 9: "Which Product to Choose" Pages Built from Your Catalog
v1.1.0 · updated 2026-09-24
What it does

The short version.

01

Criteria that come from your product sheets

A criterion reads a product feature. For a text value, you give points to each value (stainless steel 100, plastic 30). For a numeric value, the module extracts the number ("90 min", "1,200 W") and compares products, with exclusion thresholds. Price, sales and newness can be added as criteria, each with a weight from 0 to 10.

02

A complete page without writing product by product

You write the introduction and the conclusion. The module produces the rest: the three picks with their reason, the numbered ranking with strengths and points to consider, the comparison table, a "How to choose" section per criterion with the real distribution of values in your catalog, and a FAQ.

03

Up to date, and honestly dated

Any change to a product, a specific price, a stock level or a feature value flags the guides for recalculation: on the next visit, through the cron task or with one click in the back office. The "ranking updated on" date only changes when the top products or the picks really change, and each change is kept in a history.

04

The visitor adjusts, you measure

A panel lets the visitor set the importance of each criterion and a maximum budget: the ranking reorders in the page without reloading. In the back office, each guide shows its views, product clicks, add to cart clicks, orders and revenue excluding tax, over 30 days and since the start.

A detailed look at how PrestaShop Buying Guide Module 8 & 9: "Which Product to Choose" Pages Built from Your Catalog works, why we built it the way we did, and the thinking behind the features above.

§ 01

Why buying guides belong on a shop

Searches such as "which robot vacuum to choose", "best drill for beginners" or "which mattress for back pain" come from customers who have decided to buy but not yet what. Category pages do not answer them, and a hand-written blog post ages fast: the recommended product goes out of stock, another one drops in price, and the page becomes wrong without anyone noticing.

§ 02

A ranking calculated on your features

For each guide, you choose the categories compared, an optional price range, then the criteria. A "values" criterion gives points to each value of a feature, a "numeric" criterion compares the numbers read in the values (battery life, power, weight), and price, sales and date added complete the picture. Scores are brought back to 100 and weighted by the importance you give to each criterion. The back office preview shows the ranking and the score of each product on each criterion before publication.

§ 03

What the visitor sees

The page starts with your introduction and the number of products compared, then the three picks with the reason for each. The numbered ranking shows, for each product, its score, the share of each criterion, its strengths and points to consider, with the price and the cart button. Then come the comparison table, a "How to choose" section per criterion based on the figures of your catalog, your conclusion and a FAQ. The visitor can also set the importance of the criteria and a budget: the ranking reorders in the page.

§ 04

SEO

Each guide has its own URL, meta title, meta description, canonical and hreflang. Article, ItemList and FAQPage structured data are generated, with the author when filled in. Guides are added to the sitemap of the gsitemap module with their last modification date, which matches the last real change of recommendation. The related categories show a link to their guides, which creates internal links in both directions.

§ 05

Measure what each guide brings in

The module counts views (one per visitor and per day, bots excluded), clicks to products and add to cart clicks. A product clicked from a guide is remembered for 30 days: if it is ordered, the order and the revenue excluding tax of that product are attributed to the guide, including when the payment is confirmed by a webhook. You see which guides deserve more work and which ones bring nothing.
