A detailed look at how dfreparability — French Repairability & Durability Index for PrestaShop works, why we built it the way we did, and the thinking behind the features above.
Why displaying the index is mandatory
The repairability index, introduced by the French AGEC law of February 2020 and the decree of 29 December 2020, requires every person or company commercializing certain electrical or electronic equipment in France to visibly display a score out of 10. The goal is to help consumers identify the most repairable products and to fight planned obsolescence. Failure to display the score exposes the seller to administrative penalties of up to 15,000 euros per non-compliant product for a legal entity.
Both indices in a single module
dfreparability handles both the historical repairability index and the new durability index introduced by the decree of 22 April 2022. For each product, you select the applicable index type and category. The module automatically adapts the criteria grid: 5 criteria for repairability, 8 criteria for durability (with reliability, improvability and maintenance added).
Fast entry from the product page
A dedicated panel is added to the product page. You enter the scores per criterion (each out of 20) and the module automatically computes the final score out of 10. You can also override the final score manually if you apply a specific Bercy adjustment. The panel works equally well in the legacy product page and in the modern Symfony-based product page, with no specific configuration.
Compliant and customizable frontend display
The index appears on the product page with the official colored logo, the score out of 10, a link to the detailed score and a link to the legal information page. You choose the display position (under the price, in a tab, or under the thumbnails). A compact variant is available for product lists and category pages. Rendering uses dedicated CSS classes and a color theme strictly compliant with the 5 regulatory bands.
Detailed score page and legal CMS page
Each product has a public detailed score page listing the per-criterion scores, the optional download of the official PDF provided by the manufacturer, and the color legend. A legal information CMS page is created automatically at installation with reference content (legal references, color table, eligible categories) that you are free to edit and translate.
11 product categories preconfigured
Smartphones, laptops, electric lawnmowers, dishwashers, high-pressure washers, vacuum cleaners (corded, cordless, robot), top-loading washing machines, front-loading washing machines and televisions. For televisions and front-loading washing machines, the module automatically switches to the durability index (applicable since April 2024 and April 2025 respectively).
PrestaShop 8 and 9 compatibility
The module is designed to work without modification on PrestaShop 8.0 to 8.2 and PrestaShop 9.x. It handles both product page modes (legacy and Symfony) via the appropriate hooks and uses defensive class loading to adapt to the specifics of the PrestaShop 9 Dispatcher.
