Everything you'd want to know before you install.
A detailed look at how Google Tag Pro — Plug & Play PrestaShop works, why we built it the way we did, and the thinking behind the features above.
E-commerce tracking, done badly in 80% of stores
Most PrestaShop stores have GTM installed but with incomplete tracking: a basic purchase without items, missing add_to_cart, no view_item_list, no begin_checkout. Result: Google Ads can't optimise properly, GA4 shows misleading data, Looker Studio has no material to analyse. DataFirefly GTM Pro fixes this radically with 16 complete GA4 events compliant with the official schema.
Conversion Recovery: the feature that changes everything
The invisible problem: between ad-blockers (uBlock Origin on 30% of PCs), payment redirects (the order is confirmed server-side but the JS purchase doesn't run), and network errors, you lose 15-30% of your tracked conversions. On a €100k/month store, that's €15-30k of revenue invisible to Google Ads — which degrades your optimisations. Conversion Recovery saves every order to database at server confirmation time, then asynchronously checks if GTM received the purchase event. If not, the event is replayed on the customer's next visit. Result: tracking rate close to 100%.
Consent Mode v2 and Enhanced Conversions
Two Google features mandatory in 2024-2025 that most modules ignore. Consent Mode v2 sends granted/denied signals compliant with the DMA to keep measuring even without explicit consent (via Google's modelling). Enhanced Conversions hashes user data in SHA-256 server-side to improve Google Ads conversion attribution. The module implements both automatically, with default state configuration compatible with your existing CMP.
GTM container export: maximum productivity
Manually configuring a GTM container with all GA4 tags, custom triggers, DataLayer variables for Enhanced Ecommerce, plus Meta / TikTok / Pinterest pixels typically takes 8-15 hours of analytics consultant work. The module exports a JSON file ready to import into GTM (Admin → Import Container). All tags, triggers, variables already configured with your IDs (GA4 measurement ID, Pixel IDs). 5 minutes instead of 15 hours.
Server-Side GTM: the new frontier
With Safari ITP, Brave by default, and the rise of ad-blockers, client-side tracking progressively loses effectiveness. Server-Side GTM (sGTM) loads the GTM script from your own server (typically a subdomain like tracking.yourstore.com) instead of googletagmanager.com. Ad-blockers don't block it, performance is better, and you keep control over what's transmitted. The module supports this redirection natively.
Built-in monitoring dashboard
Rather than juggling between GA4, Google Ads and the reality of your back-office, the module integrates a dashboard directly in PrestaShop: number of conversions tracked over 30d, success rate (target > 95%), recovery-pending conversions, total tracked revenue, top 10 events over 7d, health indicator with recommendations (e.g., "enable sGTM if rate < 80%"). You see at a glance whether your tracking is healthy.
