A detailed look at how Automatic DHL & Multi-Carrier Tracking — Real-time API polling and auto statuses (PrestaShop 8 & 9) works, why we built it the way we did, and the thinking behind the features above.
DHL tracking, with nothing to do by hand
As soon as an order moves to “Shipped”, the module retrieves its tracking number (carrier line, DHL Parcel labels or DHL Express AWB) and starts querying the DHL “Shipment Tracking — Unified” API. Statuses are normalised into four clear states — created, in transit, delivered, incident — and shown on a timeline. You no longer open the DHL website to find out where your parcels are: the information lands in your back office on its own.
Order statuses that advance on their own
When a DHL parcel is delivered, the PrestaShop order automatically moves to “Delivered” and the native e-mail goes out to the customer. On a delivery incident, it switches to “Error”. The module prevents any downgrade: an order that is already delivered cannot go back to “in transit”. Fewer clicks, fewer oversights, and a customer kept informed with no effort from you.
19 carriers on a page in your colours
Beyond DHL, the module recognises 17 additional carriers and shows a tracking link for each on a branded page integrated into your shop: Colissimo, Chronopost, Shop2Shop, Mondial Relay, Relais Colis, Colis Privé, DPD, GLS, UPS, FedEx, TNT, La Poste, Poste Italiane, Correos, DHL Paket, bpost and PostNL. Detection runs first by carrier module, then by name — which covers carriers configured by hand, with no external module.
Built to let nothing slip
The status-change hook isn't always enough: some carriers fill in the tracking number after the order has moved to “Shipped”. A token-secured cron regularly sweeps recent orders with no tracking, finds their number and queues them. An optional parameter even allows a historical backfill to catch up older orders in a single pass.
Respectful of your DHL quota
The DHL API is limited to 250 requests per day. The module ships a rate limiter that counts the calls, spaces out polling by parcel status (more frequent on an incident, rarer for a parcel that is merely created) and definitively stops querying delivered parcels. You keep control of your quota with nothing to watch.
Built to last and to evolve
Every carrier is described in a central registry: label, tracking URL, detection rules by module and by name, number validation. Adding a carrier means adding one entry — no scattered logic. Composer-free architecture, admin controller compatible with PrestaShop 8 and 9, clean uninstall: the module meets the standards of a production shop.
